In an environment where the majority of company value cannot be assigned to tangible fiscal assets, the critical success factors for any organization need to be assessed through the broader spectrum of intangible assets. IntangAbiltytm Strategic Workshops help organizations assess their strategy, resources and capabilities.  We concentrate on highlighting where organizations are different rather than focusing on simularities.

Our Foundation

IntangAbility Limited was founded in 1999 by Tim Hoad.  Whilst working with financial institutions it had become apparent to Tim that organizations were not fully appreciative of the full spectrum of critical success factors that would help them deliver greater value today and help lay the foundations for a sustainable and successful future.  Recognition of these factors by the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) led to Tim's secondment to help British Industry use the intangible perspective to increase success and competitiveness of organizations.

Based on the MARIA (Managing and Reporting Intangible Assets) project, the first 'intangibles' report was issued by the DTI in May 2001 entitled 'Creating Value from intangible assets'.  This report is available to download from here.

This report helped organizations understand the way in which their intangibles contribute to success and how the framework can assist through:

  • Revealing how intangibles contribute to current and potential strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relative to the competition.
  • Identifying and contextualizing the 'root causes' of any particular business problem or opportunity.
  • To prioritize investment in the intangibles needed to improve both current and future performance.
  • Understanding the holistic way in which intangibles link to critical success factors which drive current and future business performance.

Our Future

The first DTI report highlighted the importance of relationships, knowledge, leadership and communication, culture and values, reputation and trust, skills and competencies, and processes and systems.  The relative importance of these categories depend on context, and what an organization owns is very different from what it may be able to identify and leverage to create value.  A second report investigating these critical success factors authored by Tim is due to be published by the DTI in early 2004.

To complement these reports a series of presentations, seminars and briefings are available through IntangAbility to conduct the IntangAbility Strategic Workouttm.

At IntangAbility, we have the expertise and ‘hands on’ experience to help your leadership team identify, measure, manage and profit from the intangible assets at their disposal.
